The first picture is me right before I went out for my 6 mile run, and the second picture is me right after my run. All my sweat and glory. My eyes were stinging from sweat getting into them haha. I may look like a mess, but that’s the product of hard work ;)
So, let me just start out this post with saying today was so terrific! :)
My boyfriend has been working overnight shifts for the past couple weeks, and he has to do it for about another month and then he’ll be done. It’s been hard to see him lately because of it. I met him this morning for breakfast. I looked up the weather this week and knew it was going to be 70+ degrees outside today so I already planned out that I was going to run 6 miles. So, I got a spinach and egg omelet with whole wheat low carb toast. I knew I wanted to have good fuel and protein before my run. Plus, seeing my boyfriend at 8am set the tone for the day :)
I got home and rested a bit before my run. As I was getting ready for it and putting my work out clothes on, a little thought crossed my mind that I didn’t feel like doing it. It was around 9:30am, and then I thought to myself, “People are still sleeping right now, and you’re about to run. Just do it.” As soon as I got outside, I forgot any thought of not running. It was so beautiful out, and I was so pumped to get out there and run. I walked down to the end of my street and stretched… and then off I went.
Usually, I can run about 3-4 miles without stopping, but lately at the gym I’ve been running on the treadmill for long distances. Last week, I ran a half hour on the treadmill without stopping and I’ve never done that before. I had a feeling my endurance was getting better, but I had NO clue of what was to come today: I ran 6 miles without stopping! I’ve only ran 6 miles one other time, and that was with a few stops. Today, I ran it in 1 hour and 2 minutes. Fucking awesome… and that wasn’t even me racing, it was just me wanting to finish 6 miles. I’m so happy with that time. I’m so happy I can run that long without stopping… holy shit. Back when I was severely overweight, I could barely run 20 seconds without stopping and breathing heavy. Today, I ran 6 miles without stopping. WHAT IS THAT? WHAT IS THAT? That’s insane, I tell you. Fucking insane.
Also, BIG NEWS! About a month or so ago I posted about the Broad Street run and how I didn’t make it to registration in time because it sold out within a couple hours. I also talked about how a regular customer at my job who I’m really friendly with who runs the race every year and does business with some people who work for it might be able to get me into the run. Well, he pulled some strings and GOT ME IN! I’m now going to be running 10 miles on May 6th at the most popular 10 mile race in the country :). I’m going to be running with people from ALL OVER THE WORLD! I’m so fucking excited!
10 miles sounded really intimidating to me, but I knew I wanted to do it. I still have more weight to lose before I hit my goal weight, and I figured training for this would be the perfect way to really get to or close to my goal. Managing to run 6 miles without stopping and knowing I still have a little less than 2 months to train for it makes me so excited. This goal of doing well at the Broad Street run looks definitely attainable. Having this race in mind is so good for my motivation and drive. I am so grateful for the opportunities and people that come into my life. I truly feel blessed.
